Paguwi (Back Home)

Solo Installation under Group Show: Symbiosis

Materials: Cellophane, Bamboo and Craft Sticks, Wire, Hot Glue Gun, Zip Tie, Heavy Rubber bands

Pag-uwi (Back Home) is an investigation of the sensation of home. Sunlight transforms this gazebo within the Fullerton Arboretum into a portal of the artist’s heritage in the Philippines. Many people focus on the reflection of how the sunlight reflects different colors from each star hanging around the gazebo. In choosing this site, the work references the mangos, guavas, and other fruits in the nearby trees, reminding me of the times my family and I spent in the Philippines. These indigenous fruits are a part of my culture and give me a sense of home
