Virginia Fabian
Virginia's Story:
My work explores my Asian American heritage and family through photographic portraits and audio stories of my grandmother, who is 87 years old. This series of photos will show my relationship with my grandmother through everyday life and formal portraits of herself from childhood to now. I want to focus more on monochromatic images from digital to analog films because they show more details of the fragility in her face and hands. I also wanted to include photos from her childhood that help reflect her story and connect to her life in the Philippines instead of focusing on her current age. I wanted to add her voice in the background because I wanted the viewer to understand more about her story while looking at the photos. In delving deeper into her stories about her early life, I have gained a deeper understanding of her life and strengthened our bond. Over the past months of observation, exploration, and taking pictures, my relationship with my grandmother has blossomed, enriched by the newfound depths of understanding and appreciation that this project has brought forth.
